Super Mario 3D Land Fun Facts

1) With the exception of crossover titles from the series, Super Mario 3D Land is the very first Mario game with Dutch, Russian and Portuguese versions.

2) The annoying grinders are only found in World 7-5 of the game. These obstacles are first seen in Super Mario World.

3) The word "Land" in the title was added by the developers as a tribute to former games in the series such as Super Mario Land.

4) The background music in castles is the same from the music heard when Bowser do battles in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

5) One of the stage from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS based its design from World 1-1 of Super Mario 3D Land.

6) One of Bowser's henchmen named Boom Boom made his first return since Super Mario Bros. 3. His voice from Super Mario 3D Land was later reused in New Super Mario Bros. U.

7) In the final fight against Bowser, it is interesting to note that the King Koopa throws barrels on Mario. This resembles the typical battle between Mario and Donkey Kong.

8) The day and night system appears in the game whenever Mario rescues Peach. This is also seen in Mario Party 6.

9) Upon reaching the maximum lives of 1,110 there are some fascinating changes between Super Mario and small Mario. The former will lose his cap while the latter will use it instead. This feature also appears in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

10) The enemies that looks like Bowser in World 1 and World 5 are nothing but clones of the King Koopa. They are called False Bowsers.

11) False Bowsers first appeared in the classic Super Mario Bros. They are just common enemies veiled in magic to look like the King Koopa himself. They just turned back to their normal selves every time they were defeated.

12) Mario and Luigi's Tanooki costume first appeared in 1983's Super Mario Bros. 3. The new costume, however, is slightly different from the original. It only had raccoon tail and ears but no body suit included.

13) Draglets first appeared in Super Mario 3D Land but its design seems a little familiar to all Mario fans. They look like a bit of Dino-Torches, Eeries and Rexes mixed in one character.

14) Toad Houses first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and were recently included in several Super Mario titles.

15) Mystery Boxes may looks like Coin Boxes present in most Mario games, but its gameplay bonus is actually new. They originally appeared in Super Mario 3D Land and made a reappearance in Super Mario 3D World later on.
