Tales of Hearts Fun Facts

1) Tales of Hearts is the eleventh main title in the Tales series and the first game to use CG arts for cut scenes in its Nintendo DS version.

2) The Playstation Vita version of Tales of Hearts replaced the CG scenes from the original with 3D models.

3) The Sorcerer's Ring is perhaps the most important key item in Tales of Hearts considering the fact that the party cannot progress in dungeons without its three elemental powers. But did you know that it is a recurring item in several titles? It first appeared in Tales of Phantasia and present in almost all succeeding games in Tales series.

4) The currency of Tales of Heart is called "Gald." Obviously, it is an allusion to gold. This is actually the original name of the currency in Tales of Phantasia if literally translated from its Japanese version. Since Tales of Destiny, the name Gald became the official term used in the canon.

5) It is interesting to note that the band that performed the opening song of Tales of Destiny is also the one who performed "Eien no Ashita (Eternal Tomorrow)" in Tales of Hearts. The band DEEN is a J-pop group that sold more than 15 million CD since its inception in 1993.

6) It is interesting to note that most characters in Tales of Hearts are named after terminologies used in Geology such as rocks, gemstones, ores and other minerals.

7) Jadeite Hearts is obviously named after a gemstone that shares his name. It is one of the two minerals valued for their striking green colors, which are commonly called as "jade."

8) Just like her big brother before her, Amber Hearts is also named after a gemstone. An amber is fossilized gemstone from tree resins that is valued for its natural beauty and orange color. It is not only used as a jewelry, but also a restorative agent in folk medicine and an ingredient for perfumes.

9) Did you know that Amber Hearts' name in Japanese version of the game is "Kohaku?" The name itself means amber when literally translated in English.

10) Most protagonist in Tales series that has strong affinity to Light are females. Thus, it is considered as rare when the main male protagonist himself, Kor Meteor, had majority of his artes belong to the Light element.

11) It is interesting to note that Kor Meteor's last name in Japanese version of the game is "Meteoryte." It is most likely a reference to a meteorite.

12) In astronomy, a meteorite is a meteor that survived the impact when it passes through the earth's atmosphere. Thus, Tor Meteor's name is not directly taken from a mineral native to earth. Rather, it is a solid object from the outer space that once belongs to either a comet or asteroid.

13) Tor Meteor's complete name in Japanese version is Shing Meteoryte. His first name Shing is a diminutive of the Japanese word shingu. The word itself is composed of two characters in Kanji form, which means "heart" and "tool" if translated respectively.

14) The main antagonist of Tales of Hearts, Calcedny Arcome, is also named after a mineral. His first name is actually a diminutive of the word "chalcedony." It is a mineral composed chiefly of quartz and moganite. There are several semi-gemstones that are formed from it such as onyx, carnelian, aventurine and agate.
