Castlevania Symphony of the Night Fun Facts

1) Alucard's starting stats are drastically influenced by the how you managed to defeat Dracula with Richter Belmont at the beginning of the game.

2) Some players may have noticed it but many are still unaware that the name Alucard is actually "Dracula" spelled backwards.

3) Castlevania Symphony of the Night is considered by most Castlevania fans as the best game in the series.

4) Maria Renard was originally planned as one of the playable characters in Playstation version, but was dropped due to time constraints.

5) Unlike its Playstation version, Maria Renard is actually one of the playable characters in Sega Saturn version of Castlevania Symphony of the Night.


6) After almost 3 centuries from the events in Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Alucard hide his true identity in the person of Genya Arikado.

7) Maria's surname is Renard, which is the French word for "fox."

8) In Castlevania Dracula X and Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Maria is referred as Richter's sister-in-law. This idea was later debunked after the official timeline of the series referred to her as an adopted sister of Richter Belmont.

9) There were slight changes in the Sega Saturn version of the game when obtaining the Holy Glasses from Maria. Alucard must fight her in order to obtain the accessory, which is completely missing in the Playstation version.

10) The Renard Clan are distant relatives of the Belmonts. Thus, it is no big surprise why Maria had incredible gifts in summoning magic and vampire hunting skills.

11) Although you can't possibly play Maria in Playstation version, yet putting her name in the title screen will still trigger some minor changes. You will still play Alucard but the Dopplegangers are taken out from the game.

12) It was in Castlevania Symphony of the Night when Richter Belmont first became an enemy boss. He once again appeared in Castlevania Portrait of Ruin but not as an enemy. Rather, he is a guardian who tests the skills of those who wish to unlock the full power of the Vampire Killer whip.

13) Richter is a German masculine name which literally means a "judge."

14) Richter Belmont's blood type is B while Maria Renard is type AB.

15) In case you haven't noticed, Richter Belmont's artwork is quite different from his sprite. The former depicts a gentleman in fine clothes while the latter is somewhat rough and rowdy.

16) The sprite model of Richter Belmont has striking resemblance to his original design in Castlevania Rondo of Blood.

17) Rumor has it that Richter Belmont is most likely the son of Juste Belmont, the main protagonist in Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance.

18) Richter's quote, "Die monster! You don't belong in this world!" is one of Castlevania series' most memorable lines.
