Suikoden III Fun FAQs

1) Why is it Luc, Caesar, Yuber and Sarah are part of the 108 Stars of Destiny when they are the main antagonists in Suikoden III?

Answer: There are no exact answer to this question. Most fans speculated that the 108 Stars of Destiny don't have to be allies in order to belong to the Stone Tablet of Promise. They just need to be part of an event that shapes the fate of the people and nations around them.


2) Is Yoshitaka Muriyama still part of the developing team of Suikoden III?

Answer: Yes. Regardless of the earlier speculations among Suikoden fans, the original creator Yoshitaka Murayama is indeed part of Suikoden III developing team. This is the last Suikoden title he worked on in the series.


3) I heard that the basket dog Kogoro is actually Pesmerga in disguise. Is this true?

Answer: No. It's just another theory formulated by some fans in Suikoden communities.


4) Who is Emily's parents as mentioned in the game?

Answer: Emily's mother is most likely Ronnie Bell and her father is the blacksmith Mose. In one bath conversation with Sanae and Sharon, Emily mentioned that her mother once fought in the Toran Liberation War. This information was confirmed by Kidd and hinted further that her father is a blacksmith. Both Ronnie Bell and Mose are close companions during the war and they could have ended up marrying shortly after the Toran Republic was established.


5) Why do Emily possesses a herculean strength?

Answer: She inherited it from her mother who is known for her strength, gigantic height and skills in martial arts.



6) How many non-Stars that I can recruit in Suikoden III?

Answer: There are only 4 non-Stars present in the game. They are all basket dogs, namely: Kosanji, Koichi, Connie and Kogoro.


7) Who is the official Flame Champion among the three possible candidates?

Answer: It has to be Hugo for some obvious reasons. Firstly, Hugo is a young kid who wears red clothes just like all Suikoden protagonists. Secondly, he is a native from Grasslands just like the former Flame Champion before him. Thirdly, he lost Lulu during the war. All Suikoden protagonists lost someone dear to them such as a mentor, best friend or family members. Lastly, Geddoe already bears the True Lightning Rune, while Chris' father is the former bearer of the True Water Rune. Thus, making his daughter the perfect candidate to replace him.

In the manga adaptation of Suikoden III, it is also Hugo who became the Flame Champion.


8) Yuber appeared in the game just like the first two titles, but Pesmerga seems to be absent. Where is he anyway?

Answer: For some undisclosed reason, Pesmerga is not present in the game nor mentioned even once.


9) Is Wan Fu and Rikimaru from Suikoden II one and the same person?

Answer: The striking resemblance of Rikimaru and Wan Fu has been a subject to many speculations. Both men are manly, voracious eater, cannot pay their bills and have sideburns. Despite these similarities, it is still unknown if they are actually one and the same.

Given the assumption that Wan Fu is indeed Rikimaru, he could have look a little more older since the Dunan Unification War ended 15 years prior to the Second Fire Bringer War. Except, however, if he has a True Rune on his body.


10) Ace mentioned that he was once a member of Gilbert's mercenary group. Who is he?

Answer: In Suikoden II, Gilbert is a Zexen mercenary who was commissioned to fight alongside the Highland Army during the early days of the Dunan Unification War. He was later persuaded by his old acquaintances, Viktor and Flik, to switch sides and join the ranks of the City-States of Jowston. Not much is known about him aside from the fact that he has a wife named Mary and a son named Thomas back in Zexen Confederacy.


11) Since Gilbert's mercenary group is part of the Allied Army, does this mean Ace also fought during the Dunan Unification War?

Answer: It was never been confirmed if Ace participated in the Dunan Unification War. Rumors has it that such is the case indeed. If so, he must be on his prime during those years, since he is starting to feel his age during the Second Fire Bringer War.

Suikoden III Fun Facts

1) Twaikin is the very first dwarf in Suikoden series to be included among the 108 Stars of Destiny.

2) Although Suikoden I featured the dwarves as one of the non-human races in the game, yet none of them became a Star of Destiny. This goes the same to Suikoden II as well.

3) Dwarves are naturally inclined on digging holes and mining tunnels. Thus, it is not so surprising why Twaikin is obsessed of such dirty jobs.

4) In one letter sent by Twaikin to the Flame Champion, he told a story about how he once dug tunnels in Toran Republic that ended up in a gorgeous building full of roses. He is probably referring to the mansion of the Flower General, Milich Oppenheimer, one of the former Six Great Generals of the Scarlet Moon Empire.

5) Dwarves are not only diggers but also excellent craftsmen and techies. They are the only race that strived to retain the technology left by the mysterious race of Cyndars.


6) Konami translators of Suikoden series had a bad habit of shortening long names, even from the first two games. One fine example is Sgt. Joe, which is actually a shortened name for Sergeant Jordi.

7) Although it was never featured in the game, yet Sgt. Joe is depicted as a heavy smoker in the manga adaptation of Suikoden III. This interesting fact has never been canonized though.

8) Sgt. Joe's weapon is called Prajuri. This is probably derived from the Indonesian word Prajurit, which means a "warrior." The name of his halberd denotes the personality of its wielder who is known as a devoted warrior of the Duck Clan. He left his family behind just to fight for the sake of his clan.

9) Rhett's weapon is called Makan, which means "eat" in Indonesian. The weapon's name itself reflects the personality of Rhett, who is known for his insatiable appetite.

10) Borus named his sword as Eins, Zwei and Drei. These are the German words for "one, two and three" as arranged respectively.

11) Borus is probably a derivative of the name "Bors," one of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian legends.

12) The former Captain of the Zexen Knights is named Galahad. His name is most likely adapted from one of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian legends.

13) Just like Borus and Galahad, Percival is also a name of a Knight of the Round Table. According to legend, the three are known to be the knights who found the Holy Grail.

14) Percival named his sword as Einst, Ghegenwart and Zukenft. These are German words for "once, present and future" as arranged respectively.

15) Landis once told Percival a very cryptic comment that left the Zexen Knight baffled. He told him that his hair would suit the "Grim Reaper." The Winger was probably referring to the slightly arch hair that resembles a scythe-- the Grim Reapers' weapon.

16) Percival is a commoner who struggled his way to the rank of knighthood. Although he was born without a last name, he earned it eventually after becoming one of the Six Mighty Knights of Zexen.

17) Percival's last name is Fraulein, which is the German word for "miss." His last name openly suggests that he is famous among the ladies for he is often seen surrounded by them while chatting.

18) It is a standard operating procedure for the Zexen Knights to fight by pairs when in the battlefield.

19) If Borus is deemed as the best swordsman among the Zexen Knights, Percival is considered to be the best knight in horseback riding.

20) Borus came from the Redrum household, a wealthy and prominent family in Zexen. His last name satirically suggest his great interest in wine collection.

21) The word Cyndar is spelled "Sindar" in Suikoden II and Suikoden V.

22) There are several Cyndar Ruins scattered in the world of Suikoden. Aside from the one found in Grasslands, there are another ruins in Dunan Republic and the Queendom of Falena.

23) The monster called Furrfly is obviously a pun for "firefly." The latter is also a name of a rune that prevents enemies from targeting its bearer.

24) A Dokugumo is a giant spider common in Zexen Confederacy and the Grasslands. It is a Japanese word, which literally means as "poisonous spider".

25) The monster Papa Holly is called as "Grand Holly" in Suikoden II. They are commonly found in the forests area in Greenhill and Matilda Knightdom.

26) Suikoden III is the last title in the series that the original creator and producer Murayama Yoshitaka made. Nevertheless, Junko Kawano, a former colleague from Suikoden I team continued what they have started by producing Suikoden IV and Suikoden Tactics.

27) So far, Suikoden III is the only game in the series to have a main protagonist who don't belong to Tenkai Star slot in the Tablet of Promise. Nevertheless, the succeeding games retained the traditional feature though.

28) Hugo shares a name with a librarian from Qlon Temple in Toran Republic. He is a former member of the Liberation Army and was one of the 108 Stars of Destiny.

29) Ace once mentioned the name "Gilbert" in Suikoden III. He is a Zexen warrior who led a mercenary group who fought under the flagship of the Allied Army during the Dunan Unification War.

30) Rumors has it that Ace could have been in the Allied Army when the Dunan Unification War broke out. The fact that he once fought alongside Gilbert's mercenary discloses the possibility that he participated in the war.

31) Did you know that Gilbert has a son in Zexen Confederacy whose name is Thomas? Although he is not the same Thomas who belongs to the Tenkai Star nor the young kid rescued in Mt. Hei-Tou.
